Things to do for kids on the Isle of Man

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

With the lockdown 3.0 extended we’re all spending more time at home which for the parents amongst us means having to come up with new ways to keep the kids entertained.

During the absence of play dates, parties and the kid’s usual activities to keep them occupied, it’s time to get creative to avoid going crazy whilst being stuck at home!

To help give you some much needed inspiration on how to keep the little ones busy during lockdown, Isle of Man Now have put together our pick of the top activities all families can enjoy from the comfort of their homes.

All you’ll need is a WiFi connection and you’re ready to discover the array of amazing activities Manx organisations have got to offer to help keep us entertained this lockdown.

Try your hand at Pottery Painting with Craftworks Studio

Craftworks Studio have launched their Pottery Paint Away Packages in time for lockdown 3.0 giving you the perfect chance to get crafty with the kids.

With fully customisable packages that can be geared towards your little one’s interests, simply start by choose their favourite pottery pieces – choosing between everything from dragons, castles, superheroes, sharks to hearts, all of which you can browse on their online store. Add to the basket before selecting their favourite colours to paint with.

Once you’ve chosen your selection, you can collect your package from the Craftworks Studio with completely contactless pick-up.

Now for the fun part. Get your paintbrushes to the ready and let your little ones work their artistic magic. Once they’ve finished their creations, just drop your pieces back off at the Studio where they will glaze, fire and repack your pottery ready for it to be collected 2 weeks later.

There you have it – a fun activity that will leave the kids with a memento they can treasure for years to come.

Enjoy some home-schooling help from Hello Little People

When artistic directors Chloe Shimmin and Michelle James found themselves back home on the Isle of Man last year due to the pandemic, they put their heads together and after a coffee and an ice cream Hello Little People was created.

The duo brought fun-filled, joyous performances to the Island, performing children’s theatre in the quirkiest of ways, and since lockdown 3.0 was introduced have adapted to bring their creative magic straight to our homes.

The pair are now lending parent’s a well-earned hand with home-schooling with ‘School of Little People’.

Join them every Friday for free, fun-filled, interactive workshops that are guaranteed to get the little ones laughing in the living room. Tune into zoom and let the fun begin!

Get crafty with The Children’s Centre

Independent Manx charity The Children’s Centre have always sought to put children and families first. Now, to help keep the little ones entertained whilst at home the team have offered up the perfect lockdown activity to try out with the kids - learning how to make an origami fox. Thanks Eleanor and Toby for this video!

There’s no need for anything fancy, simply pick up things you’ll already have lying around the house, from felt-tips to plain paper. The easy to follow video will get the kids thinking whilst allowing them to unleash their creativity to create their very own foxy friend!
